Spring is ending, colleges are letting out, and soon summer will be in full swing. If you’re looking for things to do around Utah that will get you out of the house, keep the kids occupied, or make use of your after-work free time, then this blog series is right up your alley. Each week I’ll post about a different set of places you can visit and activities you can do around Utah.
For many parents, taking the kids to an expensive movie theater where they won’t be able to sit still and be quiet costs more than it is worth. A couple hours out of the house in a cool theater is nice, but who wants the hassle? Luckily, movies in the park present a perfect solution. Many cities in Utah County offer free movie showings of your favorite classic films. The venue and featured movie are kid friendly, and parks are a great place for children to run around if sitting is too much of a challenge for them.
Lindon – Lindon’s Movies in the Park will be showing their final film on August 16th. The film being shown is the comedic kids’ movie Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs. The free movie starts at dusk at Hollow Park (400 North 300 East).
Springville – Springville will be featuring the 1979 version of The Muppet Movie. The free showing starts at 8:30 pm on August 23rd and is located at Springville Arts Park (700 South 1300 East).
Provo – Check out Newsies on August 19th and Puss in Boots at 8:30 pm on August 20th in Provo’s Rock Canyon Park (2620 North 1200 East). Oz, the Great and Powerful will show on August 26th and Mission Impossible – Ghost Protocol will be featured on August 27th. All showings are free.
In front of Sammy’s Café (27 North 100 West) will be a free screening of The Hunger Games on August 22nd.
Orem – The Orem City Library (58 North State Street) hosts free movie screenings. Seven Brides for Seven Brothers will be on August 23rd at 6:30 pm. On August 26th at 5:30 pm, the featured film will be An American in Paris. On August 30th at 6:30 pm, they will be showing Little Shop of Horrors (PG-13).
