There’s no such thing as a free lunch, but employee benefits can sure make it seem like it. Veteran benefits are the same way. And now, thanks to the Daniels Fund, there is a scholarship available to veterans for the SANS Institute VetSuccess Immersion Academy.

The Daniels Fund, named and founded by the late Bill Daniels, who is known as “the father of cable television”. He was enormously successful, and created one of the largest private funds in the world with the Daniels Fund, a scholarship and grant program that awards scholarships to eligible students in New Mexico, Utah, Colorado and Wyoming. Scholarships are generous and available to college students, and grants are available to eligible nonprofit organizations.

According to their website, the SANS Institute is a cooperative research and education organization, specializing in cyber security. “Its programs now reach more than 165,000 security professionals around the world. A range of individuals from auditors and network administrators, to chief information security officers are sharing the lessons they learn and are jointly finding solutions to the challenges they face. At the heart of SANS are the many security practitioners in varied global organizations from corporations to universities working together to help the entire information security community. SANS is the most trusted and by far the largest source for information security training and security certification in the world. It also develops, maintains, and makes available at no cost, the largest collection of research documents about various aspects of information security, and it operates the Internet’s early warning system – the Internet Storm Center.”

Registration is open to any U.S. military veteran, either retired in the last 5 years, or current but not being deployed for at least 6 months. A college degree and/or work experience is required, but not much else. During the 3-4 months of classes, students are immersed in training about a wide variety of subjects, ranging from GIAC certification to network penetration and ethical hacking.

Speaking on the scholarship, Linda Childears, President and CEO of the Daniels Fund, said “Finding employment can be among the greatest challenges our transitioning military service members face when returning home. We are pleased to support this program which can put these deserving men and women on a fast track to a meaningful career in a high-growth field.”

The 2015-2016 VetSuccess program was very successful. It had a 94% graduation rate, and an 89% job placement rate. The average salary for these positions was $80,000. Sounds pretty good huh? Sounds even better if you can graduate debt free, thanks to the Daniels Fund Scholarship. All you have to do now is join the military, serve 3 years, get a bachelors degree, and one year of work experience, attend a 4 month immersion academy, then BOOM, you are set to claim your free 80k a year job.

Kidding, but if you are a local veteran interested in cyber security, you should definitely look into this scholarship. Follow the link here to see more about how you can apply and register for this training, and jumpstart your new career.
